2.5 Motorcycle Safety Policy

The European Safer Urban Motorcycling (eSUM) Action Pack is a guide to help politicians and local authority transport planners and engineers to organise their work promoting motorcycle road safety, particularly in urban areas. The Action Pack identifies the actions required to analyse motorcycle safety issues, decide upon suitable safety interventions and evaluate actions, in the following stages:

• Gather data required for analysis of motorcycle casualty problems.
• Involve stakeholders
• Analyse data
• Identify casualty issues
• Develop targets and select interventions
• Implement interventions
• Monitor and evaluate effectiveness

The Action Pack presents a toolkit designed for independent use by road safety practitioners and provides useful guidance for authorities developing a motorcycle road safety action plan.
